Women's Cross Country Places Seventh at Atlantic 10 Championships

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's cross country squad placed seventh at the 2006 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships on Saturday in Pittsburgh, PA. Sophomore Andrea Florida led the Hawks, earning All-Conference honors with her 13th-place finish. This year's result matches that of the 2005 season, when the Hawks, paced by Florida's All-Conference performance, also placed seventh out of 14. La Salle took home the team championship, led by Rachel Papin's first-place individual finish. Florida finished the 5K race in 18:32.60. Senior captain Suzie McHenry was the second Hawk to cross the finish line, turning in a time of 18:52.00, earning 21st place. Fellow senior Renee Spangler placed 30th with a time of 19:13.20. Spangler was followed by a pair of sophomores, as Amy Rhein and Juli Stensland also scored for the Hawks. Rhein finished in 43rd place at 19:29.70, while Stensland turned in a time of 20:00.90 for 68th place. Also running for the Hawks were seven others. Seniors Rebecca Powell and Maddie Bell turned in times of 20:01.80 and 20:38.45 to earn 69th and 97th place, respectively. Freshman Caitlin Reusche ran a 20:47.35 to place 102nd in the field of 138. Senior Erin Kelly and freshman Anna Cushing were close behind, finishing 112th and 114th with times of 21:06.50 and 21:20.40. Rounding out the SJU lineup were freshman Samantha Seitter with a time of 22:11.90 (125th) and sophomore Katie Pencek, who earned 130th place with a time of 22:31.95.
