Women's Cross Country Takes Fifth Place at Lafayette

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's cross country team placed fifth overall on Saturday at the Lafayette Invitational in Easton, PA. Sophomore Andrea Florida and senior captain Suzie McHenry led the Hawks with ninth and 10th place finishes, respectively. The University of Pennsylvania placed first in the meet, which featured 134 runners representing 13 teams. Florida turned in a time of 21:07.0 to pace the Hawk contingent in the 6K run. McHenry was the next runner to cross the line with a time of 21:10.2. Senior Renee Spangler was the next Hawk finisher, earning 30th place with a time of 22:06.7. Sophomore Amy Rhein placed 39th with a 22:19.8. Senior Rebecca Powell was close behind, finishing the race in 22:23.9 (41st place). Rounding out the scoring for SJU were sophomore Juli Stensland and senior Maddie Bell . Stensland ran a 23:02.2 to place 64th, while Bell's 23:24.5 was good for 79th place. Next up for the Hawks are the Atlantic 10 Championships on October 28 in Pittsburgh, PA. Last season, Saint Joseph's placed seventh in the conference.
