Women's Netters Top the Mount, 6-1
Sept. 16, 2004 PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team (1-1) claimed eight of nine matches to defeat visiting Mount St. Mary's (1-1) on the Finnesey Courts by a count of 6-1. SJU swept all three doubles matches to earn that point and then posted victories at the second through sixth singles slots. Senior Michelle Savage and sophomore Erika Guers teamed at number two and sophomore Mairsa Donelson and freshman Gina Digiacomo paird up to easily post identical 8-2 victories at #2 and #3 doubles. Juniors Nicole Morrison and Jess Swanderski posted an 8-4 win at #1 doubles. The Hawks then picked up five singles wins, as Savage (7-5, 6-2), Swanderski (6-2, 6-4) , Guers (6-2, 6-0), sophomore Alisa Van Meter (6-0, 6-0) and DiGiacomo (6-4, 6-1) swept the second through sixth slots. Morrison was the lone Hawk to falter on the day, dropping a hard fought 6-1, 7-5 decision at number one. The Crimson and Gray return to the courts on Tuesday, September 21 against Villanova.
