JAMAICA, N.Y. The St. Johns mens and womens track and field teams participated this past weekend in the Fordham/St. Johns Invitational. The mens squad took home fourth place, while the women ended up fifth.

Two first place finishes paced the mens team. Junior Mariah Mauer (Cold Springs, N.Y./Chicago State University) finished first in the triple jump with a length of 14.49 meters. The 4x400 meter relay team crossed the finish line first with a time of 3:19.66. The womens squad was lead again by senior Sheba George (Brooklyn, N.Y./Samuel J. Tilden). George compiled two more first place finishes in the shot put and the weight throw. In the shot put, George posted a distance of 13.86 meters, narrowly edging Kiara Adams of Rutgers. While in the weight throw, Georges toss of 18.92 meters convincingly outdistanced her teammate, freshman Brandy Bradford (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Lawrence High School) who finished second at 15.19 meters. With that throw, George achieved a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Sophomore Alina Abramova (Armavik, Russia/Municipal Gymnasia) added to the Red Storms success by winning the triple jump event with a distance of 12.00 meters.

The Red Storms will next compete in the Milrose Games on Saturday, February 1 at Madison Square Garden.
