Jamaica, N.Y. St. Johns head womens soccer coach Ian Stone has announced the signing of nine student-athletes for the upcoming 2002 season. The following student-athletes have agreed to attend St. Johns University and play soccer next season: Kaitlin Schmidt, Centereach, N.Y.; Krysten Skinner, Yorba Linda, Calif.; Andrea Coukoulis, Scottsdale, Ariz.; Tracey Rollings, Paignton, Devon, England; Erin Henderson, Watervliet, N.Y.; Alicia Hartley, Westminster, Calif.; Mallory DiMaio, Orefield, Pa.; Laura Burlacu, Flushing, N.Y.; and Stephanie Ramia, Salisbury, Md.
Schmidt is a forward from St. Anthonys High School. As a member of St. Anthonys, Schmidt won the 2001 New York State Catholic High School Championship and was named All-League and All-Long Island. With the Northport Extreme, Schmidt won the 2001 WAGS and 2001 Score at the Shore championships. At the Empire State Games, she won a bronze medal with the Long Island Region Team. She also played for Eastern New York South ODP. Skinner, a goalkeeper, will come to St. Johns a sophomore after transferring from North Carolina State. At N.C. State, Skinner was named ACC Player of the Week during the 2000 season. At Esperanza High School, Skinner was named CIF first-team and Sunset All-League Defensive MVP in 1999. With the Southern California Blues, she won the California State championship in 1998. Skinner will sit out the 2002 season to fulfill NCAA transfer requirements. Coukoulis is a defender from Horizon High School. She earned All-City and All-Desert Valley Region first-team honors as captain and MVP of the 2002 state runner-up squad at Horizon. Her club team, the Sereno Golden Eagles, are three-time Region IV semifinalists and six-time state champions. A member of the Region IV ODP team, Coukoulis has also played for the Arizona state team for the past four years. Rollings is a goalkeeper who played for Englands Under-19 International team. She played representative soccer with both the Somerset County Youth F.A. and the Devon County Senior team. Henderson is a midfielder from Watervliet High School. As a senior, Henderson was named Section II Class C Player of the Year, while also receiving first-team All-League, All-Area and All-Section honors. With the Clifton Park club team, she won the Eastern NY Premier U15 League championship and were finalists for the Eastern NY State Cup. A member of the Eastern New York North ODP, Henderson played in the Empire State Games for the silver medallists Adirondack Region team. Hartley is a defender from Mater Dei High School. She served as team captain for CIF Division III finalist Mater Dei and was named All-CIF Div. III first-team. A member of the 1999 Far West Regional and the 2002 Nomads College Showcase championship teams, Hartley plays for the CRSC Infinity. DiMaio is a midfielder from Parkland High School. She was a member of the 2001 Mountain Valley Conference championship team and named to the MVC first-team. DiMaio currently ranks fourth on Parklands all-time leading scorer list. She has played for the Eastern Pennsylvania Under-17 ODP since 1998 and won the Region I championship in 2001. Burlacu is a midfielder from Newcomers High School. During the 2001 season, Burlacu was named PSAL Soccer Player of the Year after scoring 27 goals in 12 games. She also plays for the Manhattan Redlegs soccer club. Ramia is a midfielder/forward from James M. Bennett High School. As a senior at Bennett, Ramia scored 16 goals and dished out 13 assists. She was named to the conference first-team and given All-State Honorable Mention accolades. She plays club soccer for the SAC Dynamo.
The Red Storm open the 2002 season on Tuesday, August 27 with a pre-season home game versus Hofstra.
