Nov. 2, 2004 New York, NY - The St. John's women's soccer team dropped their final game of 2004 this evening, falling 2-1 in overtime at Columbia. Shannon Munoz scored both goals for the Lions including the game-winner in the 95th minute. The Red Storm finish the season with a 10-9-1 overall record. The Lions struck first as Aubrey Medal gathered a loose ball and passed it quickly to Munoz at the top of the box who sent the ball past the keeper towards the far post. The Red Storm responded seven minutes later off a corner kick. Erinn Flaherty (Clifton Park, NY) sent a high cross towards the box where Holly Ryder (Plantation, FL) met up with the ball and headed it under the bar to tie the game at one. St. John's had a chance at a go-ahead goal, but Natasha Lee's (Albuquerque, NM) breakaway attempt was stopped by a diving save from Columbia's keeper. Aronson saved the Lions again with just eight minutes remaining in the first half. Lee had another breakaway, but Aronson came off of her line and blocked the attempt with her feet. Neither team could connect in the second half, forcing the first overtime period. The Red Storm had another solid chance when Flaherty sent another corner kick into the penalty area. The resulting scramble in the box included three shots by St. John's, all of which were stopped by Columbia's defense just in front of the goal line. Lindsey Knowles flicked a pass with the side of her foot over the Red Storm defense. Munoz met up with the ball and hit a shot to the left of
St. John's keeper Jaime Beran (Tucson, AZ). Beran got a hand on the ball, but could not stop it, as the Lions took the game 2-1 in the 95th minute.
