Wednesday, April 20, 2005, Queens, NY - The St. John's University men and women's golf teams both qualified for the 2005 BIG EAST Championships to be held at the Warren Golf Club in Notre Dame, IN. The tournament will begin on Friday, April 22 with the men as the No. 4 seed and the women seeded second.

The Red Storm women take part in the conference tournament for the first time in their brief three year existence. This season they have won four team titles, including the Hartford Invitational two weeks ago, where they pulled away to win by 24 strokes. In the fall, the women took three of the five tournaments they entered, including the final two. At the Rutgers Invitational, senior Jaclyn Sanders (Ontario, Canada) moved past teammate Brittany Lambertson (Northport, NY) on the final day to win the individual title, firing a four-over 148.

Sanders and Lambertson have led the Red Storm this season, posting a scoring average of 79.4 and 79.5 respectively, on their way to four top-five finishes each. Junior Christin Thomson (Ontario, Canada) has been solid all season as well with a scoring average of 80.0 and two top-five finishes.

On the men's side, St. John's has been in the tournament every season, having won nine of the first 11 championships, but failing to come home with the crown since 1989. Last season, the Red Storm finished fifth overall, led by junior Brian McArdle (Huntington, NY), who finished the tournament tied for eighth at 13-over par 223.

This season, the Red Storm men have compiled two top-five finishes, including a second place finish at The McLaughlin. Freshman Keegan Bradley and McArdle have led the team this season as they both have two top-five finishes. Bradley has a team-low 74.7 scoring average, while McArdle is close behind at 75.5 and has had all 19 of his rounds counted.
