Darcel Estep will lead the Nacel Open Door All-Star Team on a 10-day tour of Italy and play against some of the top club teams in the country. Last year, Estep guided the same All-Star team through a tour of Greece. Joining Estep on the tour of Italy are Red Storm freshman guard Sherri Brown (Willingboro, N.J./Willingboro) and freshman forward Nora Gyuris (Pecs, Hungary/Babits Mihaly). Brown enjoyed a solid freshman campaign with the Red Storm. A starter in 13 games, Brown finished fifth on the team in scoring with a 7.0 average and was third on the squad with 30 three-point field goals. Gyuris was a reserve in 26 games and started eight times, averaging 1.8 points and 1.2 rebounds per game. We want to go over there and treat this experience as an opportunity to not only build relationships with each other, but also from country to country, says Estep, who will enter her third season at the helm of the Red Storm this fall. We want to have fun, but we also want to set a great tone for the United States. Hopefully Nora and Sherri will continue to grow in their game. This experience should help them in their adjustment to the college game, giving them an extended amount of play against another level of competition. I am very excited, admits Brown. It will be a good experience for me, being in a different atmosphere. I am not nervous now, but I am sure I will be when I get on the plane! I expect a great time, says Gyuris. This is a great experience for me to meet new American players as well as European players. It will be great to play again under Coach E and I hope to improve. The All-Stars leave New York for Milan on Thursday, June 7th and will return home on Monday, June 18th. In those 10 days, the All-Star team will play teams from Cesena, Parma, Faenza, Ferrara, Theine, Schio, Como, Pavia and Vicenza.
