Jamaica, N.Y. The St. Johns womens basketball team will face off against No. 16 Notre Dame on Tuesday, January 14 at Alumni Hall with tipoff slated for 7:30 pm.
New head coach Kim Barnes Arico, whose team is 6-8 overall, is in search of her first career BIG EAST win. After starting off with two nationally-ranked conference opponents and dropping a tough game over the weekend, St. Johns is 0-3 in BIG EAST play this year. Last Saturday against Seton Hall, senior Danielle Rainey recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Rainey is the teams leading scorer, averaging 15.5 points, and rebounder, with 5.2 boards per game. The Fighting Irish (9-4, 1-1) are coming off an 80-70 loss to Miami at home last Saturday. With the loss, Notre Dame dropped two straight home games for the first time since the start of the 1994-95 season. 2001-02 National and BIG EAST Rookie of the Year, Jacqueline Batteast paces the Irish with 15.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per contest.
