Erik Scharf (Yonkers, N.Y./Roosevelt) was selected to participate in the NCAA Division I Men's Singles Tournament, it was announced this afternoon. He will compete in a field of 64 players vying for the individual title.Selection for the NCAA Tournament is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes. Each region receives automatic entry for four singles players and two doubles teams.Scharf led St. John's to a 10-6 overall mark, including a 7-0 slate in BIG EAST action, and to a third-place showing at the conference championships in Miami.He played No. 1 singles for the Red Storm and posted an impressive singles record of 33-3, beating players ranked among the top-100 nationally and several of the top players from Region I.
