Women's swimming drops opener at Duquesne
Oct. 21, 2006 PITTSBURGH, Pa - The St. Bonaventure women's swimming team lost to Duquesne Friday evening at Towers Pool by the score of 115-90. Junior Taryn Ahern led the Bonnies taking two first-place finishes. Ahern touched first in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 10:39.72 and in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:11.10. Classmate Anneli Johnson won the 200-breast in a time of 2:21.41. Sophomore Allison Whalen placed first in the 200-butterfly in a time of 2:09.02. Freshmen Kara Small and Allison Smith both took two second-place finishes. Small recorded a time of 2:14.33 in the 200-individual medley and a time of 2:10.87 in the 200-backstroke. Smith posted a time of 1:55.62 in the 200-yard freestyle and a time of 5:12.64 in the 500-year freestyle. Junior Meghan King claimed third in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.84 and also took bronze in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 54.33. With the loss, St. Bonaventure falls to 0-1 on the season. The Bonnies will return to the pool when they travel back to Pittsburgh to take on the Pittsburgh Panthers on Friday, Oct. 27 beginning at 5:00 p.m.
