Bonnies fall to Temple
Oct. 28, 2005
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Despite controlling the ball most of the game, the St. Bonaventure women's soccer team came up short in a 2-1 loss to Temple this afternoon at McGraw-Jennings Field. The Bonnies held a 13-8 advantage in shots and a 7-0 edge in corner kicks. Temple opened the scoring just 10 minutes into the game as Wendy Halina blasted a shot from 18-yards out to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. St. Bonaventure applied pressure throughout the first half, getting off seven shots in the final 30 minutes, but went into the half down 1-0. Temple wasted little time to get on the board in the second half as Charisma Wright received a perfectly placed through-ball from Jenna Rankin and converted the breakaway to give the Owls a 2-0 advantage. The Bonnies got on the board in the 79th minute when senior Heather MacDougall scored on a corner kick from sophomore Jessica Bartock to cut the Temple lead in half. St. Bonaventure was able to create good scoring opportunities to close the game, but couldn't convert to send the game to overtime. Junior Lisa Eberhart turned away two Temple shots in net. With the loss the Bonnies fall to 2-14 overall and 1-7 in A-10 play, while Temple improves to 4-13-1 and 1-6-1 in the conference. St. Bonaventure will return to McGraw-Jennings Field for their final game of the season on Sunday against St. Joseph's at 12:30 p.m. Prior to the game, the Bonnies will honor their eight seniors.
