Bonnies take down Xavier, 4-3
Oct. 12, 2007
ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - It's safe to say the St. Bonaventure offense is back. After failing to score a goal in their last three games, the Bonnies broke out in a big way on Friday afternoon in a 4-3 Atlantic 10 win over Xavier at McGraw-Jennings Field. The four goals tied a season-high four the Brown and White as four different Bonnies found the back of the net. Seniors Jacquee Parmiter and Jessica Bartock each finished with three points on one goal and an assist. Freshman Anna Cunningham was the other multi-point scorer with two assists. Freshman keeper Nicole Markert made her third consecutive start in net and picked up her third win. Markert turned away four shots on the day, including a pair of key saves in the final minutes. The win improves St. Bonaventure to 4-8-1 on the season and 1-4 in league play. The loss is the second straight for the Musketeers as they fall to 3-10-1 and 2-3-1 in the A-10. Freshman Marilyn Wargo got things going in the 20th minute of the first half as she took a perfectly placed pass from senior Jacquee Parmiter and headed it into the back of the Xavier net. The lead lasted just over a minute as Melissa Zimmerman scored the equalizer off a rebound from a save by keeper Nicole Markert. St. Bonaventure regained the lead just minutes later at the 23:38 mark as Parmiter found her way through the Xavier defense. Parmiter took a feed from Cunningham and beat the keeper with a shot in the right corner. The Bonnies never trailed in the second half despite a 15-minute span that featured three goals, including a pair by Xavier. Freshman Courtney Bosse sandwiched a goal between the two Musketeer tallies, her fifth of the season.
With the score tied 3-3, it was Bartock giving the Bonnies the lead for the final time as she blasted a shot over the outstretched hands of keeper Jenny Rosen for the game-winner. Bartock took a feed from Cunningham and quickly hit the ball and it appeared to catch Rosen off-guard. For the game, Xavier held a 14-11 edge in shots, including 12-4 in the second half. Melissa Zimmerman had a hand in all three Musketeer goals and finished with five points. St. Bonaventure will return to McGraw-Jennings Field on Sunday against A-10 power Dayton. Kick-off is slated for 2:30 p.m. following the men's soccer teams game against Charlotte at noon. |
