Cartmill named assistant women's basketball coach
June 26, 2006 ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Sarah Cartmill has been named an assistant coach for the St. Bonaventure University women's basketball team, Bonnies head coach Jim Crowley announced. A former standout player at Binghamton University, Cartmill played professional basketball in Europe for three years. This past season, Cartmill was a graduate assistant coach at Ithaca College in her hometown of Ithaca, N.Y. Cartmill's family has St. Bonaventure ties as her older brother, Chris, played golf for the Bonnies and graduated in 2000. "Sarah's background as a very successful college player, her international experiences and her knowledge of St. Bonaventure University make her a great fit," Crowley said. "She is someone I've known and respected for a long time. I am confident Sarah is a very positive addition to our program." "I'm excited to be part of the Bonaventure family," Cartmill said. "I hope that with my playing experiences and background, I can bring something new to the program, connect with the girls and help bring success." Cartmill was the 2001-02 America East Conference Player of the Year as a senior at Binghamton. A three-time All-Conference selection, the 6-0 forward scored 1,836 points and grabbed 784 rebounds over her career. She ranks second in Binghamton women's basketball history in scoring, third in rebounding and first in career games played (116). Over her four seasons, the Bearcats posted a combined record of 94-22. Following her collegiate career, Cartmill played two seasons in the Irish Superleague for Scruffy's St. Paul's, averaging better than 20 points per game both years and leading the club to a spot in the league finals. Cartmill then moved to Denmark to play for the Sisu Basketball Club in 2004-05. She led Sisu to its first Danish National Cup since 1999 and was named the post-season tournament Most Valuable Player. Cartmill averaged 20.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game for Sisu in 2004-05. At Ithaca High School, Cartmill was named to All-State teams three straight years. She set Ithaca High records with 1,900 career points and 998 career rebounds. Cartmill joins assistant coaches Courtney Mattingly and Jesse Fleming on Crowley's staff.
