Bonnies clip Colonials in regular season finale

ST. BONAVENTURE N.Y. - In a final tune-up before the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships next week, the St. Bonaventure men's tennis team defeated the George Washington Colonials today, 5-2, at the SBU Fitness Center in Olean. The victory gave the Bonnies a final season record of 7-10, and they ended their 2006 A-10 season with a 4-2 record. The Bonnies earned four points in singles play, and they won the doubles point as they were 3-0 against the Colonials. Once again, the Bonnies were led by junior standout Alejandro Nery, who went 2-0 in both of his matches. In singles, Nery knocked off Mustafa Gencsov in the No. 1 slot, 6-3, 7-5, and won his match in the No. 2 slot in doubles with partner, freshman Jonathan Luce, 9-7. Junior Andrew Hart was victorious in No. 3 singles, as he defeated Elliot Daniels, 6-2, 6-2. Also winners in singles were freshman Victor Lecina and Luce who won in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots respectively. Other winners in doubles play for the Bonnies was Hart and junior Dejan Stankovic, who won in No. 1 doubles, 8-4, as well as Lecina and freshman Leo Mochizuki, who won in No. 3 doubles, 9-7. The Bonnies next action will be on Thursday, April 6, as the team will open up play in the 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships.
