Men's Swimming earns split at West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.V. - The St. Bonaventure men's swimming and diving team earned a split on Sunday afternoon as it fell to No. 20 West Virginia and defeated Georgetown in a tri-meet at the WVU Natatorium.

The Bonnies fell to the host Mountaineers 138-95 and topped the Hoyas 161-73.

Junior diver C.J. Maurer was the lone double winner for the Brown and White as he claimed the one-meter and three-meter boards with scores of 262.2 and 259.85, respectively.

Senior Chris Ekimoff was the only other individual winner as he claimed gold in the 500 free in 4:48.34. Ekimoff also posted a time of 9:53 in the 1000 free to take second place. Junior Roman Margulis took placed second in the 200 IM and 200 butterfly with times of 1:56.75 and 1:57.75, respectively.

Seniors Dan Freeland and Ceyhan Guler touched second (1:57.13) and fourth (1:59.53) in the 200 backstroke, while Freeland finished third in the 200 free in 1:46.11.

Sophomore diver Jon Larson totaled 243.2 points on the three-meter board to take second, while senior Matt Dickinson finished third in the one-meter competition with 220 points.

The split moves the Bonnies' record to 3-4 in dual meets on the season.

St. Bonaventure will return to the waters of the Reilly Center Pool this Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. when it welcomes Binghamton to campus.
