Oct. 31, 2007
KITTY HAWK, N.C. - The St. Bonaventure golf team used a one-over par team score of 285 to move up four slots on the final day of the 28th Annual Old Dominion/Seascape Collegiate Invitational. The Bonnies maneuvered their way from 14th place up to 10th in the tournament's 21-team field. Hartford claimed the tournament title with a two-day total of 569, while Campbell (572), Wofford (574), host Old Dominion (576) and Richmond (578) finished in the top five. "We were hoping to finish higher in the standings, but I'm really proud of how the guys bounced back after a frustrating start," said head coach Steve Campbell. "Conditions were a lot more favorable today and we took advantage of that. In all, it's been a great fall for our program and a great start to the year for the seniors." Junior Brennan Payne was one of 23 players in the field to finish Tuesday's final round under-par. Payne bounced back from Monday's 81 with a three-under par 68 today to finish in a tie for 48th place. Freshman Chris Stoddard capped his first fall season as the Brown and White's top finisher in a tie for 21st place. Stoddard posted rounds of 73 and 72 for a two-day total of 145. Seniors Andy Whalen and Ryan Swanson contributed the other two scores on the afternoon with an even par 71 and three-over par 74, respectively. Whalen finished in a tie for 29th place, while sophomore Nathan Peck's 74-77/151 was good for 59th position. St. Bonaventure finished the fall season with four tournament titles in six events.
