No. 5 Stanford Women's Soccer closed out the regular season on Sunday in Corvallis, Ore. by defeating the Oregon State Beavers 2-0. Christen Press scored two goals in the 28th minute, and in the 61st minute to give the Cardinal all the offense they needed.

The Cardinal grabbed the lead in the middle of the first half when Christen Press knocked in her own rebound to give Stanford a 1-0 lead in the first half. Goalkeeper Erica Holland recorded three saves in the first half, which contributed to her sixth shutout of the season.

The game stayed 1-0 all the way to the 61st minute when Press was able to add another goal from a pass from Kelley O'Hara. Press received the pass and split the defense and shot from 20 yards out to extend the Cardinal lead 2-0. The Stanford backline controlled much of the game and only allowed four shots on net for the entire match. For the weekend the Cardinal defense didn't allow a goal and only let four shots face Holland.

Head Coach Paul Ratcliffe was pleased with the effort to close out the regular season. "We created a lot of opportunites in the game," said Ratcliffe."... and I was very pleased we were able to get two goals on the board and do what it took to win the game."

The Cardinal now awaits its postseason fate tomorrow when the NCAA Tournament pairings will be unveiled at 5:00 p.m. PST on ESPNEWS.
