Jillian Harmon Propels New Zealand Past Mali, 76-72, In Olympic Opener

New Zealand got some Stanford power Friday night as Jillian Harmon made her Olympic debut with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds, leading the Tall Ferns to a 76-72 victory over Mali in Group B play. Harmon started the contest, scoring New Zealand's first points of the Olympics, and in the game's final minute grabbed a key rebound that allowed the Tall Ferns to hold off a late Mali rally.

Former Stanford basketball standout Jennifer Azzi `90 was announced as one of six inductees to the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame, becoming the second Stanford member to receive the honor. Azzi, a two-time All-American and the catalyst of Stanford's first national championship team in 1990, will be enshrined at the Hall of Fame's induction ceremony next June 19 in Knoxville, Tenn.

Stanford Women's Basketball standouts Jillian Harmon `09 and Clare Bodensteiner `06 were named to the New Zealand Women's Basketball Olympic Team, the New Zealand Olympic Committee announced Tuesday. The selection of both Harmon and Bodensteiner to the Tall Ferns makes the duo the third and fourth Olympic players in Stanford Women's Basketball history.
