One of the top pitchers, if not the top pitcher, in collegiate baseball...Named a first team preseason All-American by both Baseball America and Collegiate Baseball...A projected first round pick in the 2000 June Amateur Draft...Falls right into the line of other Stanford greats such as Jack McDowell, Mike Mussina, Chad Hutchinson, Jeff Austin, Rick Helling and Kyle Peterson just to name a few...Begins his junior year with 207 career strikeouts, just 52 from reaching Stanford's all-time list...Reaches the low 90's with his fastball in addition to an excellent split-finger fastball and a nice curve ball...Can be an intimidating and dominating pitcher...A tremendous athlete who fields his positions well...Played summer ball for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod League, and went 0-1 with a 3.91 ERA in 23.0 innings...Selected by the Texas Rangers in the 29th round of the 1997 June Amateur Draft.

As a Sophomore in 1999 - Had a breakout year and quickly established himself as the Cardinal's ace...A consensus All-American who was selected first team by the NCBWA and second team by Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America...Also earned ABCA first team all-West Region and first team all-Pac-10 honors...Named Stanford's Most Valuable Player...Finished the year with a 12-3 record and posted a 3.43 ERA as the 12 wins rank tied for eighth on Stanford's all-time single-season list, just two shy of the school record of 14 held by five different players...Set new Stanford single-season records with 178 strikeouts and 154.2 innings pitched, crushing the old whiff mark by a healthy 22 K's and just squeaking by the old innings pitched record by 1.2 frames...Finished among Pac-10 leaders in strikeouts (1st), innings pitched (1st), wins (1st-T), starts (1st-T), earned run average (2nd), opposing batting average (2nd, .227) and batters struck out looking (2nd, 61)...Tossed two shutouts on his own and pitched in two other shutouts...Had a season filled with many highlights, most notably a complete game eight-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in 1-0 win over USC in the first game of the NCAA Super Regional on June 4...Gave the Cardinal a first round CWS win with a complete-game six-hitter in 9-2 win over Cal State Fullerton on June 12...Finished the season with an amazing 10 complete games in 21 starts...Named to NCAA Regional all-tournament team after throwing a complete game-six hitter against Loyola Marymount to beat the Lions 10-2 in first NCAA Tournament contest...Finished 3-0 in the postseason with a 3.34 ERA while tossing an amazing 35 innings in four appearances...First shutout of the season was a five-hitter accompanied by 13 strikeouts versus Oregon State on April 30...Named the Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week on March 8 and earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors after a 16-strikeout performance against Arizona State as he went the distance for a victory in a six-hitter...The 16 strikeouts is just two shy of Steve Dunning's single-game school record of 18 established in 1970...Also the only Pac-10 hurler to earn Conference Pitcher of the Week honors on three occasions (February 16, March 1, March 8)...Struck out 10 or more batters on seven occasions...Threw three consecutive complete games from February 21-March 5 and then again from May 28-June 12...In his first career collegiate start, allowed just one hit over 6.0 shutout innings (but received a no-decision) in 1-0 win over Fresno State on January 29...Earned Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honors after allowing just one earned run in 15.0 innings of work from February 9-15, defeating Saint Mary's 5-0 on February 10 (6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 9 K) and Santa Clara 7-1 on February 15 (9 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 8 K)...Threw a complete game six-hitter with 10 strikeouts in 5-3 win over California on February 21...Six days later, fired a complete game four-hitter with 10 strikeouts in 5-2 win at USC on February 27...Was effective in back-to-back games versus Washington State and Washington on April 1 and April 9, striking out 12 batters in each contest...Threw a complete game five-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts in 7-0 win over Oregon State on April 30...Hurled a complete game six-hitter in 4-3 victory over Saint Mary's on May 7...Pitched 6.0 strong innings versus Cal Poly to pick up a victory in 8-1 win on May 20...Scored his first collegiate run while appearing as a pinch-hitter versus Washington on April 11.

As a Freshman in 1998 - Used primarily as a long reliever...Appeared in 15 games, all in relief...Went 1-1 with a 6.35 ERA and one save...Picked up first collegiate win after allowing just one unearned run and striking out five over 3.2 innings in 8-3 triumph at Santa Clara on February 24...Earned first collegiate save in 17-5 win at Arizona State on February 28 with six strikeouts in 3.1 innings...Only at bat of the season came in 17-1 win at Arizona on April 19.

High School - 1997 graduate of Berkeley High School...Preseason All-American as a senior...Three-time All-Bay Valley Athletic League selection and two-time team MVP...Invited to the USA Baseball Junior National tryouts.
