    General - An extremely talented and athletic catcher • Has great arm strength and is an excellent receiver defensively, as well as a potent bat offensively • Handles pitchers well • Has an excellent attitude • Became Stanford's everyday catcher for the first time in 2004 • Performed well when he had a chance during his first two years (2002-03) but was forced to play a lot of either first base or designated hitter while behind First Team All-American Ryan Garko at the catcher position • Has increased the rate of his improvement while he gets a chance to play behind the plate consistently • One of the team's fastest players and top baserunners • Selected by the Chicago White Sox in the second as the 59th pick overall in the 2004 MLB First-Year Player Draft.

    2003 Season Notes (Sophomore) - Hit .291 with a pair of homers, 18 RBI and six stolen bases • Added nine doubles • Used primarily as the team's designated hitter against left-handed pitching and as the first pinch-hitter off the bench, leading the team with seven pinch-hits and going 7-for-11 (.636) in the role • Put up great defensive numbers, tossing out 6-of-10 (60.0%) runners trying to steal on him • Hit .357 (5-14) in the postseason and was also successful offensively in Pac-10 action, hitting .345 with a pair of homers, seven RBI and five stolen bases in 19 games and 12 starts • Provided arguably the most dramatic moment of Stanford's regular season with a walkoff homer to lead off the bottom of the 10th inning, clinching the outright Pac-10 title and giving the Cardinal a 9-8, 10-inning victory over UCLA (5/18) to cap a game in which he equaled a career-high with three hits as he was 3-for-5 as the team's catcher filling in for injured starter Ryan Garko • Played in 49 games with 34 starts, including 19 at designated hitter, as well as seven each at catcher and first base, and one in right field • Posted a career-high-tying seven-game hit streak (4/7-4/19) • Was 2-for-3 in the NCAA Super Regional opener versus Long Beach State (6/6) • Was 2-for-3 with a career-high-tying three runs scored and a pair of RBI versus Cal Poly (5/23) • Was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI at USC (5/3), adding a career-high-tying three runs scored • Had a key pinch-hit RBI single in Stanford's four-run eighth inning of a 10-9 comeback win over Arizona (4/26) • Had a career-high-tying three hits (3-4) with his first homer of the season, a double and an RBI versus Oregon State (4/17) • Scored the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning at Arizona State (3/23), stealing second base and scoring on Sam Fuld's RBI single after pinch-running for Jed Lowrie • Had a key RBI double in an 8-7 win at Texas (2/22 - Game 2) • Snapped out of an 0-for-15 skid with a double versus Nevada (2/17) • Had a double in the season-opener at Santa Clara (1/25).
