At Stanford: Figures to be one of 2009's top starting pitchers not only in the Pac-10, but in the entire country...is Stanford's top returning winner after going 7-2 with a 4.27 ERA for the Cardinal's 2008 College World Series club...followed outstanding sophomore campaign by being tabbed by Baseball America as the ninth-best prospect in the prestigious Cape Cod League...has developed an outstanding breaking ball to complement a good changeup and a low-90s fastball...tremendously hard-working player had an outstanding fall, and is pitching the best he has since arriving on The Farm...owns a career 11-6 record with a 5.02 ERA (81er, 145.1ip) over 31 collegiate appearances (26 starts)...was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 19th round of the 2006 MLB First-Year Player Draft, but did not sign a professional contract.

As a Sophomore in 2008: Ranked second on Stanford's College World Series staff for wins, innings and starts, going 7-2 with a 4.27 ERA (34er, 71.2ip) in 16 games (13 starts)...was extremely tough against right-handed batters, holding them to a .246 average (35-for-142)...got off to a tremendous start, going 5-0 with a 1.49 ERA (6er, 36.1ip) over his first seven outings (six starts) through April 13...made his first appearance of the year in relief, working 4.0 innings against Nebraska on February 23...moved into the rotation for his next outing, and earned the win March 2 at Cal State Fullerton...tossed 6.0 innings of three-hit, shutout ball in a 14-0 victory at Pacific on March 24, while setting a season-high with eight strikeouts...followed that performance with 7.1-scoreless innings in a 4-1 victory over Washington State on March 30...in fact, tossed 14.1-consecutive scoreless innings, including his final frame in a March 9 start at Texas...struggled over a five-start stretch April 20-May 19, going 2-2 with a 10.90 ERA (21er, 17.1ip)...bounced back with a strong performance in his lone start of the NCAA Regional, pitching Stanford to an 8-4 victory over UC Davis (7.0ip,8h,4r,3er,1bb,5so)...made one start in the College World Series, and limited eventual finalist Georgia to just two runs over 5.1 innings (7h,3bb,5so).

As a Freshman in 2007: Named Stanford's Most Outstanding Freshman after posting a 4-4 record and 5.74 ERA (47er, 73.2ip) in 15 games (13 starts)...struck out 62 batters in his 73.2 innings, while combining for one shutout and throwing one complete game...lasted 6.0 or more innings in three of his last four starts...had an excellent start to the season, posting a 3.54 ERA over his first five start...posted a 2-2 record with a 4.78 ERA (20er, 37.2ip) in seven Pac-10 appearances (all starts), striking out 32 batters in 37.2 innings...made his collegiate debut by earning a no-decision in a February 3 start at Cal State Fullerton...earned his first win in a relief role on February 10 vs. Fresno State, allowing one run over 5.0 innings of a 9-2 victory...became the first Stanford freshman pitcher to start the opener of a three-game series when he took the hill on March 2 vs. California...responded with a career-high nine strikeouts over 7.2 innings of three-hit, shutout ball...combined with David Stringer on a 1-0 blanking of the Golden Bears...tossed his first career complete game May 5 at Washington State, twirling a five-hitter in a 6-4 victory.

High School: Graduated in 2006 from Garces Memorial High School in Bakersfield, Calif....named to the 2006 Bakersfield Californian All-Area second team and the All-Southeast Yosemite League first team after he compiled a 6-4 record with a 1.95 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 50.1 innings, walking only six batters...earned 2005 honorable mention all-league recognition...was named the Most Valuable Pitcher at the 2005 Terrio Classic...helped his team to the 2004 CIF Central Section Sequoia Division crown...also lettered twice as a wide receiver in football...coached in baseball by George Culver and Denny Barrett.

Other Amateur Baseball: Was selected by Baseball America as the ninth-best prospect in the 2008 Cape Cod League following a stellar summer with the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox...went 1-1 with a 3.73 ERA in six starts...tallied 34 strikeouts against 10 walks in 31.1 innings...fanned 13 against eventual league champion Harwich in his final start...did not pitch in the summer of 2007.
