SOUTHERN SOFTBALL CAMP IN FULL SWING

SOUTHERN SOFTBALL CAMP IN FULL SWING
7/15/2005

Baton Rouge, LA – The Nancy Marshall Softball Camp is in full swing and has completed two days of activities for the 35 young ladies who have attended this year.

“I am happy with the turn out this year,” says Nancy Marshall, of her camp now in its sixth year.  “The young ladies are real excited about learning.”

Day one was a defensive learning day, as each participant had sessions on how to properly field a ground ball, a pop-up and a line drive.  They also learned how to follow through on their throws and how to block errant throws.

Day two was the day the campers always look forward to – the offensive day.  The campers learned to swing, keep their eye on the ball while swinging, and the proper follow through when hitting. Each camper had their swing analyzed and then recommendations to make their approach better, if necessary, was made.  The participants then had drills on bunting and slap bunting.

The coaches then split the campers into two teams and allowed a mock softball game to take place with the coaches serving as umpires.  This allowed the coaches to see if the young ladies were putting what they learned into play.

“The fundamentals are what we’re really stressing because they are building blocks to any good player,” said Marshall.

Saturday, July 16th, is the final day for the camp, with the campers scheduled for  a supervised game with the coaches looking on watching to see what each person has learned.

“We want to make sure that they know what we’re teaching them, is to better themselves both on and off the field of play,” says Marshall.

The camp kicks off at 8:00 am, with the award presentations beginning at 11:30 am at Lady Jaguar Field.  The community is invited and admission is free.
