March 28, 2007 Baton Rouge, LA - The Southern University Lady Jaguars softball team went 2-1 versus the Alcorn State University Lady Braves this past weekend at Lady Jaguar Field. The series ended the first two months of their 2007 schedule. Southern (8-11, 2-1 SWAC) was lead in the three game series by sophomore Lauren Dodd who batted .500 going 3 for 6 from the plate with two doubles, a run and an RBI. Freshman Megan Hodge went 2 for 5 from the dish for a .400 average. The Atlanta, Texas native collected a single, a double and scored a run. Hodge also picked up both wins on the mound for SU pitching 13.1 innings and striking out nine batters. Currently Southern is ranked second in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division. As a team the Blue and Gold is ranked second in batting with a .247 average and fourth in pitching with a 3.74 era. Individually freshman Brittany Hymes is ranked fifth in the conference in batting with a .360 average. Joining her is fellow freshman Jasmone Williams, who is ranked ninth with a .327 average and is also tied for fifth in the SWAC in doubles with six. Junior Courtney Chappell is ranked 10th with a .321 average. Hodge is in second place in the SWAC in pitching with a 2.60 era and a 7-2 record and is second in strikeouts with 67. Next up for SU is McNeese State University Cowgirls. The Lady Jaguars travel to Lake Charles, LA on Wednesday, April 4th for a 6:00 p.m. contest at the Cowgirl Diamond. |
