JAGUARS FALL TO VALLEY

Indi Johnson scored a career high 24 points.

Jan. 18, 2007

Baton Rouge, LA -- "That's horrible. ... The team is shooting the ball 43 percent every night (from the field). Most coaches will take that," said head coach Sandy Pugh. "The free-throw percentage is horrendous. It's unacceptable."

That's what coach Pugh said about Monday's night lost to Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devilettes 69-80.

Southern (1-13, 1-5 SWAC) dropped their fifth straight Southwestern Athletic Conference contest while Valley's head coach, Nate Kilbert, earned his first win versus coach Pugh.

"It's been a long time coming," said coach Kilbert. "We've been playing pretty good basketball the entire season so we knew if we went out and worked hard we would come out on top."

Southern was led by junior Indi Johnson who scored a career high 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Southern Lab product, Krystal Huggins, earned her second double double of the season with 12 points and a season high 13 rebounds. Red-shirt junior Fredrieka Lewis ended the match with 10 points.

The Valley game was the final home match of January for Southern. Their final three events of the month will be on the road starting with the Alabama run. The Alabama State University Lady Hornets will host the Blue and Gold on Saturday, January 20 in an afternoon contest beginning at 1:00 p.m. on the campus of Alabama State.
