The Southern University Jaguar football team welcomed close to 85 players to camp yesterday, as the day officially meant the end of summer, for players, and the beginning of fall football camp.

Pete Richardson, entering his 15th season "on the Bluff", says he will reserve his emotions until the Jags finally hit the field.

"The first time I get excited is when I see individuals, especially the freshmen, step forward and grasp what you're trying to give them," Richardson said. "With the veterans coming back, you almost know which ones are going to fit where. It's the freshmen kids who create the competition."

The Jags are scheduled for compliance meeting and academic orientation, as well as physicals over the next couple of days. The Jags first on-the-field practice will come Thursday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
