The Southern University Jaguars (19-12) will take their season-high
six game winning streak into the back yard of the ACC Champion Duke Blue Devils
(30-3) in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum
in Greensboro, N.C. Game time is set for 9:30 PM EST and will be televised live
by CBS. Kevin Harlan (play by play) and Dan Bonner (color) will provide analysis.
Southern, the SWAC regular season and tournament champion enters as the #16 seed. Southern defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff 77-44, to earn the Southwestern Athletic conferences automatic bid. It is Southern's first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1993, when the Jags upset GA Tech in the first round. Duke enters the 2006 NCAA Tournament coming off of a 78-76
win over Boston College, to repeat as ACC Champions, the team's seventh in the
last eight seasons. Also in Greensboro for the Atlanta Regional are No. 8 seed George Washington and No. 9 seed UNC-Wilmington. This will be the first ever meeting between Southern and Duke.
