Lady Eagles Capture MC All Mississippi Invitational Cross Country Meet Title
The Southern Miss women’s cross country team won the 2001 MC All Mississippi Invitational at the Choctaw Trails. Junior Janet Rono, the individual winner, covered the 5K course in 18:32.85, leading the Golden Eagles to the team title with 33 points.
Southern Miss placed three other Lady Eagles in the top 10, including Rose Kurui, sixth, with a time of 20:02.90, Jessica Crump, seventh, with a time of 20:09.91, and Keri White (10th) with a time of 20:25.14. Rounding out the Golden Eagle runners were Oby Amadi (21st) at 21:31.86, Tomeka Shaffer (29th) with a time of 21:59.86, Karen Tankersley (35) with a time of 22:10.25, Erica Scharfenstein (51) at 23:22.74 and Jenny Combs (63) at 24:22.10.
Southern Miss returns to action, Oct. 27, in the Conference USA Cross Country Championship in Greenville, N.C.
