Southern Miss Lady Eagle Cross Country Team Captures Tulane Invitational

GRETNA, La. -- The Southern Miss Lady Eagle cross country team placed four runners in the top eight, winning the Tulane Cross Country Invitational Friday at Gretna Park in Gretna, La.
Seniors Becca Rop and Cassandra Goodson finished two-and-three over the three-mile course with times of 18:25 and 18:34, respectively. Newcomer Dijana Kojic finished fifth with a time of 18:43 and Naomi Kiprotich was eighth with a time of 19:20. Karen Tankersley finished 13th, rounding out the top five finishers with a time of 19:47. Alisha Edwards finished 16th overall with a time of 20:09 and Rachel Nix was 16th with a time of 20:17.
Tulane, who won last year’s event, had the top individual winner, Rachel Bryan, who posted a time of 18:02. Rounding out the team finishes were UNO second with 75 points, Tulane third with 86 points, followed by South Alabama 117, Arkansas State 122, Southeastern Louisiana 145, Loyola 174, Nicholls State 181 and Georgia College 214.
Southern Miss returns to action, Sept. 10, hosting its 25th annual Southern Miss Cross Country Invitational at the Van Hook Golf Course, on the Pavilion side. The university women's 5K race begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the men's 4-mile race at 5 p.m.
