Lady Eagle Volleyball Team Meets Marquette In First Round Action at the Healthy Choice Conference USA Volleyball Tournament
The Southern Miss volleyball team finished its regular season on a high note with a 3-0 win at UAB, claiming a spot in the 12-team Healthy Choice Conference USA Tournament, Nov. 15-18.
Southern Miss (9-18, 4-12), seeded 11, meets No. 6-seed Marquette (17-11, 9-7) at 3 p.m. in the first round of the tournament with the winner meeting No. 3 South Florida, Friday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m.
Southern Miss split matches over the weekend, losing to South Florida, 3-0, but rebounding with a 3-0 win over UAB. Senior Kelly Tribble tallied 22 kills, 17 digs, two aces and eight total blocks in the two matches. Freshman Lisa Downey added 20 kills and nine digs.
Marquette finished the regular season with a win at TCU and a loss at Houston. Jennifer Amobi led the Golden Eagles with 29 kills over the weekend.
Cincinnati is the top seed in the tournament followed by Louisville No. 2, South Florida No. 3, Houston No. 4, DePaul No. 5, Marquette No. 6, Saint Louis No. 7, Memphis No. 8, Tulane No. 9, Charlotte No. 10, Southern Miss No. 11, and East Carolina No. 12.
