Golden Eagle Track and Field Teams Improve On Performances
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss men's and women's outdoor track and field teams continue to improve on their performances.

The Lady Eagles posted winners in seven events that included Prudence Reid's season-best performance in the 100 meters, taking first-place with a time of 11.69. Yolanda Johnson finished sixth with a time of 12.69. Johnson also took second-place in the 200 meters, with a time of 24.83. Kasey House posted a season-best time of 24.91. Oby Amadi finished sixth in the 400 with a time of 58.38.

Janet Rono set a new school record in the 1,500 meters, taking first with a time of 4:3.67. Rose Kurui turned in a season-best time in the 1,500 at 5:06.83, finishing seventh and Tomeka Shaffer finished eight with a time of 5:17.76. Keri White took first in the 3,000 meters with a time of 11:02.55, while Kurui ran a time of 11:33.29.

The 4x100-meter relay team finished second with a time of 45.73 for a season-best and took first in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:50.85.

In the field events, Sabrina Norwood and Kate Juedes finished 1-2 in the high jump, with Norwood posting a season-best jump of 5'8" and Juedes jumped 5'6". Krista Miller took sixth with a jump of 5'4.25". Sandra Allen was third in the long jump with a jump of 18'5.25". Tamara Dayes posted three top-five finishes in her events. She took second in the shot put with a throw of 43'2.50", second in the discus with a throw of 140' and set another record in the hammer, throwing season- and personal-best 160'3". Michelle Zorn finished third in the shot with a throw of 39'4". Kristen Preau took fourth in the javelin with a season-best toss of 126'9", while Emilie Taylor finished fifth with a throw of 123'8". Juedes finished seventh at 110'.

On the men's side, Marcus Polk ran 18.83 in the 100 meters, finishing third, while Shane Brandford was fifth with a time of 10.85. Polk finished fourth in the 200 with a time of 21.73, and Brandford took fifith with a time of 22.04. Isaac Gang ran a 1:57.44 in the 800 to finish eight. Tavius Freeman took first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.45, then followed that with a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles with a time of 59.16. The 4x100-meter relay team posted a time for 41.53, finishing second and ran 3:16.94 in the 4x400-meter relay to finish fourth.

Michael Hardrick took first in the high jump with a jump of 6'8". Matt Fant and Michael Ludlow finished 1-2, in the pole vault. Fant jumped 15'0, while Michael Ludlow's jump was 14'6". Polk finished fourth in the long jump with a jump of 22'7.25". Bryan Bruner took first in the shot put with a toss of 53'1.75", second in the discus with a throw of 146'8" and fifth in the javelin with a throw of 156'10". Noah Bryant was first in the discus with a throw of 155'1" and took fourth in the hammer with a throw of 139'1". Casey McGehee finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 137'7". Eric Lyon topped the day with another new school record in the hammer with a throw of 140'5", finishing second.

Southern Miss travels to Louisiana-Monroe, April 27, for its next track and field meet.
