Southern Miss Track and Field Teams Finish Second At Coach "O" Invitational

Krista Miller set a record in the high jump with a jump of 5'10"

TROY, Ala. – Krista Miller and Jeb Meschke recorded regional qualifying marks, helping Southern Miss to second place finishes at the Coach “O” Invitational on Saturday.

 

Miller took first-place with a school record jump of 5’10” in the high jump, while Jeb Meschke had a season-best throw of 204’5” in the javelin.

 

The Lady Eagles recorded several first-place finishes on the day.  Raquel Washington finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.70.  Dasha Wakefield was first in the pole vault with a height of 11’0” and Tanika Liburd was first in the long jump with a jump of 19’4.50”.

 

Lydiah Chepkwony finished third in the one-mile run with a time of 5:11.11.  Alisha Edwards was fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.28.  Becca Wiseman finished third in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 10:12.06.  Washington finished second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.50, while Jocelyn Young was fourth with a time of 1:04.59.  The 4x400-meter relay team finished fifth with a time of 3:55.38.

 

In the field events, Sabrina Norwood finished second in the high jump with a jump of 5’6: and Kate Juedes was fourth with the same height.  Shannon Weaver finished fourth in the long jump with jump of 18’10.25”.  Lexi Washington finished fourth in the triple jump with a jump of 36’10.75” and Sharlynn Monroe was sixth with a jump of 36’9.75”.  Regina Ballinger finished fourth in the pole vault with a height of 8’6”.

 

Troy State women’s team scored 128 points to claim the meet title and Southern Miss scored 95 points for second-place.

 

On the men’s side, Shane Brandford finished second and sixth in the 100 and 200 meters with times of 10.81 and 21.94, respectively.  The 4x100-meter relay team finished fourth with a time of 44.95 and took third-place in the 4x400-meter relay race with a time of 3:17.31.

 

Steve Griffin finished third in the high jump with a jump of 6’4”, but finished first in the long jump with a jump of 23’5.50”.  Robert Johnson was second in the long jump with a jump of 22’7.25” and fifth in the triple jump with a jump of 43’4.50”.  Jeff Danso finished second in the triple jump with a jump pf 46’0.50”.  Maulies Pettaway finished fourth in the shot with a throw of 47’4”, but he finished first in the hammer with a throw of 148’8”.  Logan Stogner finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 137’7”.  Eric Lyon was fifth in the hammer with a throw of 140’5”.  Rounding out the field events, Marvin Lucas placed second in the javelin with a throw of 194’0” and Conrad Chanove was third with a throw of 187’0”.

 

Southern Miss will host the Southern Miss Invitational on April 9.
