Golden Eagles Indoor Track and Field Team Finish 4TH & 8TH

HOUSTON, Texas – The Southern Miss women’s and men’s indoor track and field teams finished fourth and eighth, respectively, at the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Yeoman Fieldhouse.

 

Houston women’s team won the women’s title with 117 points followed by Charlotte with 83.50, UAB 77, Southern Miss 59, Cincinnati 57, USF 53, Tulane 45, TCU 40, East Carolina 40, Marquette 34, Louisville 25 and Memphis 23.50.

 

The Lady Eagles captured two individual titles in the 800 meters and the 60-meter hurdles when Dijana Kojic ran a season and school record time of 2:08.26 and Raquel Washington ran a school record and personal-best 8.38 in the 60-meter hurdles.

 

Tanika Liburd finished seventh in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.61.  Naomi Kiprotich finished seventh in the one-mile run with a time of 5:04.10.  The 4x400 meter relay team was fifth with a time of 3:42.04 and the distance medley relay team ran a 12:18.96, finishing fifth.

 

Krista Miller finished in a tie for second in the high jump with a height of 5’8.50”.  Liburd also finished third in the long jump with a jump of 19’8.75”.  Aaliyah Shareef was third in the triple jump with a jump of 39’6.25” and Sharlyn Monroe was fifth with a jump of 39’4”.  Ashley Reyer finished fifth in the pentathlon with 3,456 points.

 

Houston also won the men’s title with 166.50 points, followed by TCU 101, Charlotte 89, East Carolina 82, Marquette 81.50, Memphis 69, DePaul 41 and Southern Miss 32.

 

The Golden Eagles received points in the 800 meters when Marvin Pinnock finished fourth with a time of 1:56.37.  C. J. Collier finished fifth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.26.  The 4x400 meter relay team finished sixth with a time of 3:22.17 and the distance medley relay team was seventh with a time of 11:24.82.

 

Brad Pritchard finished seventh in the high jump with a jump of 6’2”.  Robert Pittman was seventh in the pole vault with a height of 14’1.25”.  Marcus Polk and Robert Johnson were seventh and eighth in the long jump with jumps of 22’0.25” and 21’11.75”, respectively.  Maulies Pettaway finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 50’1.75”.  Marcus Brown was fifth in the weight throw with a distance of 55’6.25”.

 

Southern Miss opens the outdoor season on Mar. 5 at the Jackson State Invitational.
