Southern Miss Women’s Tennis Weekend Wrap-Up From The Ole Miss Fall Tennis Classic

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Lady Eagle tennis team had an excellent showing at the Ole Miss Fall Tennis Classic, highlighted by doubles partners Chelsea Bond and Nikhila Narra winning the Blue Draw Consolation and appearances by Ali Blackett and Sherry Price in the Red Draw Doubles Consolation Final, as well as Blackett advancing to the White Draw Singles Consolation Final on the last day of the weekend competition.

In singles action, Nicola Slater defeated Emily White (Samford), 6-2, 7-6 (2) in the first round of the Red Draw Singles before losing to Maryori Franco (Arkansas), 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6). Also in the Red Draw Singles, Sherry Price lost to Maria Zivcicova (South Alabama), 6-0, 6-1 in the first round. She would then defeat Sarah McKey (Samford), 6-4, 6-3 in the Red Draw Singles Consolation, advancing to the semifinals where she lost to Tsitsi Masviba (Troy State), 6-4, 6-4.

In the Blue Draw Singles, Nikhila Narra lost to Anna Jackson (Samford), 6-3, 6-2 in the opening round. She then faced Anna Belle Bares (Troy State) in the Blue Draw Singles Consolation first round where she lost, 6-1, 6-2. Grace Kammerer lost to Melissa Cornett (Arkansas), 6-4, 7-5 in the opening round of the Blue Draw Singles. In the Blue Draw Singles Consolation, she defeated Erin Higgs (JSU), 6-2, 6-4, advancing to the semifinals where she lost to Margot Carter (TTU), 6-0, 6-4.

In the opening round of the White Draw Singles, Ali Blackett was defeated by Renee Joseph (MSU), 6-2, 6-1. After her first loss, she would go on a tear in the White Draw Singles Consolation, defeating Layla Abby (JSU), 6-2, 6-3, followed by another win against Kay Ngiam (TTU), 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals, placing her in the White Draw Singles Consolation Finals. In the finals she lost to Suzanne Jones (Troy State), 7-5, 6-4. Courtney Ulrich also saw action in the White Draw Singles, losing in the first round to Eloah Lopes (JSU), 6-4, 6-1. In the White Draw Singles Consolation first round she lost to Jones, 6-1, 6-0.

In the Silver Draw Singles, Chelsea Bond defeated Lauren Pitcher (Samford), 6-1, 7-5, followed by another win in the quarterfinals against Claire Conerly (Ole Miss), 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. In the semifinals, she was defeated by Elna deVilliers (MSU), 6-0, 6-0. Also in the Silver Draw Singles, Kristi Wittman lost to Christie Baker (Samford), 6-0, 6-0, in the opening round. In the Silver Draw Singles Consolation, she lost to Marcia Barnes (JSU), 6-0, 6-2 in the first round.

In doubles play, Price/Blackett lost to Masviba/Jones (Troy), 8-2, in the opening round of the Red Draw Doubles. In the Red Draw Doubles Consolation, they defeated Tasheva/Boonzaaier (TTU), 8-1, advancing to the finals where they lost to Franco/Bordeleau (Arkansas), 8-2. Also in the Red Draw Doubles, Slater/Kammerer defeated Bourdet/Espinal (ULM), 8-4, moving on to defeat Kugakolova/Joseph (MSU), 8-2 in the quarterfinals before losing to Koukhartchouk/Subramanian (Ole Miss), 8-0, in the semifinals.

In the Blue Draw Doubles, Ulrich/Wittman lost to Tokarieva/Cochran (Ole Miss), 8-3. In the Blue Draw Doubles Consolation, they were defeated by Benson/Baker (Samford), 8-2. Concluding the Blue Draw Doubles was Narra/Bond who lost to Sabin/Bares (Ole Miss/Troy), 8-6, in the opening round. They would next face Yartseva/Burlet (TTU/ULM) in the Blue Draw Doubles Consolation, winning 8-2. In the semifinals, they defeated Wilhelm/Cornett (Arkansas), 8-6, advancing to the finals where they defeated Benson/Baker (Samford), 8-3, claiming the Blue Draw Doubles Consolation.
