No. 21 Marquette Shuts Out Southern Miss, 2-0
MILWAUKEE, Wisc. -- No. 21 Marquette defeated the Southern Miss women's soccer team, 2-0, at Valley Fields. Marquette outshot Southern Miss, 28-5 and had an 11-0 shot on goal advantage.
The first half featured Marquette recording seven shots on goal, and Heather Goranson produced MU's first score on a 12-yard shot. Ester bedard fed Goranson in the box for the assist.
Marquette recorded its second goal in the 87th minute when Ashley Spakowitz found Anne Loder in the center of the box for the 2-0 final.
Southern Miss has a shot to tie the score in the 76th minute. Katie Randoph hit the crossbar from 20 yards away, but the ball rebounded out of play. The Lady Eagles' goalkeeper Leslie Schloeplein finished the match with 11 saves.
Marquette improves to 8-2 on the season, 2-0 in Conference USA. The Lady Eagles fall to 5-5, 1-3 in C-USA.
