HATTIESURG, Miss. - The Southern Miss women's soccer team fell, 3-0, in its regular season opener against LSU, tonight, at the Tiger Invitational with 1,828 in attendance.

Thirteen minutes into the first period, LSU's Malorie Rutledge took a pass from teammate Lindsay Lum and beat Lady Eagle senior goalkeeper Anna Fiser from 10 yards out to put the Tigers up 1-0.

Ten minutes later, Rutledge, along with help from Michelle Makasini, connected with Melissa Clarke, who netted the second goal of the night from inside the 6-yard box to give LSU a 2-0 lead.

To complete the night's scoring, Makasini shot from the top of the box to send the ball past a diving Fiser, 19 minutes into the second period.

The Tigers finished the match with a commanding 25 shots, compared to Southern Miss' one. Rutledge led LSU with four shots, including two on goal while junior forward Sarah McFadden recorded the only shot for the Lady Eagles.
