Lady Eagle Golfers Finish Sixth at the Conference USA Women’s Golf Championship

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The Southern Miss Lady Eagle golf team finished the final day with a 332, five strokes better than their second-round total, for a sixth-place finish at the 2004 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship held at the Shady Oaks Country Club. The Lady Eagles had two golfers receive all-conference honors.
Tulane turned in a final round 312, capturing the Conference USA Women’s Golf Championship title with a three-day total of 941 (318-311-312) and finishing 18 shots ahead of TCU. The Horned Frogs remained second after posting a 326 on the day, finishing with a team total of 959. USF (318-321-321--970), Louisville (338-317-321--976) and East Carolina (330-334-314—978) rounded out the top five teams.
Southern Miss' Jennifer Keefe (79-83-76--238) finished in a tie for seventh, followed by freshman Mia Davidsson (83-82-84--249), who finished in a tie for 22nd overall. Ofelia Lopez (79-82-89—250) finished 24th, Natasha Vincent (85-91-83--259) and Nicole Mackey (88-90-91--269) finished 33rd and 39th, respectively.
Tulane’s Liliana Alvarez fired the lowest round of the tournament with a closing 72 to win the individual crown.
UAB finished in a tie for sixth with Southern Miss, while Memphis (1029) and Cincinnati (1070) held spots eight and nine.
Among the other 2004 C-USA awards handed out after Wednesday’s final round was Coach of the Year, which went to Sue Bower of Tulane. Brooke Tull of TCU collected her third straight Player of the Year honor, while Tulane’s Mary Ellen Jacobs was named the Freshman of the Year, the second-consecutive year that a Green Wave player has taken home the award after Alvarez was named the league’s top newcomer in 2003. Joining Tull and Jacobs on all-conference first team were Millican, Alvarez and Tull’s teammate, Camille Blackerby.
