April 17, 2006 GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The Southern Miss women's golf team fired a second round score of 316 to move into a tie for seventh at the 2006 Conference USA Women's Golf Championship at the par 72, 6,221-yard Ironwood Golf and Country Club in Greenville, N.C. Host East Carolina shot a round of 294 on the day to take over first place, while SMU and Tulsa stand tied for second overall. UCF and first-day leader UTEP are tied for fourth, while Memphis is in sixth. Along with Southern Miss, Marshall and UAB also are tied for seventh. Jennifer Bodemann currently leads the Lady Eagles with a two-round total of 153 (78-75) and is tied for 20th, while Ashlea Deener is tied for 28th with a 75-82--157. Nicole Mackey (84-79--163) and Johanna Kristiansson (84-80--164) are 38th and 39th, respectively. Kate Burns is 45th with a 90-90--180. SMU junior Jennifer Ackerson tied the C-USA championship record for low round with a 68. Ackerson and UTEP junior Gerina Mendoza, who led the medalist race after the opening round with a 69, are tied for first entering Tuesday's final round with a one-under 143. ECU sophomore Emelie Lind and freshman Lene Krog led the Pirates with a 71 and 72, respectively, and are tied for fourth place after 36 holes. Tulsa senior Cas Bridge shot an even par 72 for the second day in a row and sits alone at No. 3 entering tomorrow's final round. Final round action begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The winner of the C-USA Championship receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals.
