March 27, 2007 HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The women's basketball Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis and her staff handed out several team awards at the annual banquet on Monday night. Senior Kristin Chaney came away with the top honor, the Lady Eagle Award. This award was based on success in the classroom, on-the-court and community involvement. "Kristin Chaney exhibits the true meaning of Lady Eagle basketball," Head Coach Joye Lee-McNelis said. "She has that fire and passion, and is the consummate hard worker, and is never satisfied with herself because she believes she can always improve and do better." Sophomore Kendra Reed received the team's defensive award, while Amber Eugene received the team's best offensive award. Junior Liz Biland and freshman Lauren Pittman received the most improved players' award. Chaney and Reed shared Co-MVP honors. Several statistical awards were given out as well. Eugene earned the leading scorer and rebounding award, while Reed earned top free throw percentage and three-point field goal percentage awards. Pittman was awarded the top field goal percentage award, while Biland received the leading blocked shots award. Chaney also received the award for most assists and steals.
Southern Miss finished the 2006-07 season with a 15-15 record and 9-6 in Conference USA. The team lost in the first round of the conference tournament to Tulsa. |
