Lady Eagles Earn No. 7 Seed For C-USA Tourney
HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss' Lady Golden Eagles basketball team beat East Carolina, 62-61, on a late three-point field goal in Greenville, N.C., Sunday afternoon, and with that victory assured Head Coach Rick Reeves and his team of a spot in the upcoming Conference USA Tournament in Memphis, Tenn.

In fact, that victory gave the Lady Eagles the No. 7 seed and moved Southern Miss into a 1 p.m., opening-day game against No. 10 seed, Houston, in the first game of the four-day event that will be played in The Pyramid. Other first round games will send No. 11 seed Louisville against No. 6 seed Saint Louis at 3 p.m., No. 9 Marquette will face No. 8 and host Memphis at 6 p.m., and No. 12 East Carolina faces No. 5 TCU in the final game of the day, at 8 p.m.

The top four seeds in the tournament all received first-round byes and won't play until Friday. Charlotte earned the top seed with an 86-80 victory over Tulane Sunday afternoon, while Cincinnati is seeded second, DePaul third and Tulane fourth.
 

 

Friday's second round games will send the Southern Miss-Houston winner against Cincinnati, The Louisville-Saint Louis winner goes against DePaul at 3, the Marquette-Memphis winner against Charlotte at 6, and the ECU-TCU winner against Tulane at 8.

Semifinals are set for 1 and 3:30 p.m., Mar. 8, and the championship game will be played at 1 p.m., the following day, and televised on ESPN 2.

In the regular season, Southern Miss lost at home to Houston, 53-52, Feb. 23. The Lady Eagles take a 13-14 record, 6-8 in C-USA, into the tournament. Houston beat UAB, 84-47, in its final regular season game Sunday and finished with a 15-12 overall record, 6-8 in the league.
