HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - With two regular season games remaining in the 2006-07 season, Southern Miss concludes its home portion of its schedule, hosting East Carolina on Thursday at 7 p.m., and Marshall on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Both games will be broadcast over WXHB-FM 96.5 with the "Voice of the Lady Eagles" Jason Baker providing play-by-play action with former coach Kay James as the color analyst. The broadcast also is available on SouthernMiss.com.

Southern Miss currently owns a 14-13 record overall and 8-6 in league play, following a 60-55 win at UAB on Saturday. Amber Eugene paces the Lady Eagles with 18 points and Kendra Reed scored 17 points, while Liz Biland pulled down 10 rebounds. Kristin Chaney dished out nine assists.

Eugene leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.9 points, while Reed is close behind at 15.7 points game each. Biland leads the team in rebounding at 6.6 boards with Eugene at 6.5 per game. Kristin Chaney leads the team in assists with a season-best 185 and steals 61 steals.

As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 63.3 points and 37.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 40.7 percent from the field and 75.1 percent from the line. The Lady Eagles are shooting 32.9 percent from three-point range. Reed leads the team with 64.

East Carolina comes into the game with a 14-13 overall record and 9-5 in the league, currently sitting in a tie for third, following a 76-68 win over league leading Tulane. Jasmine Young scored a game-high 22 points, followed by Cherie Mills with 18 and LaCoya Terry added 12 points. The Pirates connected on 27-of-33 free throws.
 

 

Mills leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Young has dished out 139 assists and connected on 38 three-pointers.

Head Coach Sharon Baldwin-Tener is in her fifth season at ECA and owns a record of 67-73.

Following the East Carolina game, Southern Miss concludes its regular season against Marshall with senior day festivities following the game.

SOMETHING ABOUT EAST CAROLINA
East Carolina sits in a tie for third in the C-USA standings. The Pirates are riding a five-game winning streak. ECU is also playing its last two regular season games. Senior center Cherie Mills is the top scorer for the Pirates, averaging 15.4 points per game, while Jasmine Young is averaging 13.1 points. East Carolina is no. 1 in the league in three-point field percentage defense and third in rebounding offense. As a team, ECU is averaging 65.0 points and 42.5 rebounds per game. All 12 players have made contributions to the offense.

ABOUT THE SERIES
This is eighth meeting between the two teams. Southern Miss leads the series, 4-3. Southern Miss has won the last three meetings, including the meeting earlier this season.
