Southern Miss Track Program Signs Thrower

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Head Track and Field Coach Wayne Williams announced the signing of Marcus Brown of Meridian, Miss., for the 2004-05 academic year.

Brown, a 6-2 thrower who graduated from Northeast Lauderdale High School in 2002, attended Mississippi Valley State University in Itta Bena, Miss. He has recorded personal bests of 185' 6" in the hammer and 52' 8" in the 35-pound weight.

"I think Marcus will have a strong and immediate impact in the hammer and weight throws," Assistant Track and Field Coach for Throws Kevin Stephen said. "I fully expect him to contend with the top throwers in Conference USA."

He was the 2004 Southwestern Athletic Conference champion in the hammer throw, an NCAA regional qualifier in the hammer and was awarded the scholar-athlete award at MVSU. Brown was voted team MVP in 2003.

Brown will study computer science at Southern Miss.
