COLUMBIA, Mo. -- - Southern Miss' Tanika Liburd placed second in the long jump with a jump of 20'9.25" and javelin thrower Hana Prudilova placed third with a throw of 143'6", scoring 14 total points in the first day of action at the Mideast Regional Championship. Both will advance to the NCAA National Outdoor Championships, June 6-9, in Sacramento, Calif.

Junior Cornelius Duncan won his heat in the 400 meters, recording a time of 46.60, advancing to the finals on Saturday.

Sophomore Vincent Tanui ran a time of 14:32.23 in the 5,000 meters, finishing 16th overall. The women's 4x100-meter relay team ran a time of 45.93, but finished third in their heat and did not advance to the finals. Ashley May recorded a jump of 18'5.25", finishing 19th overall.

In addition to Duncan competing in the finals of the 400 meters, will be Aaliyah Shareef and May in the triple.
