Golden Eagle Men’s Track Team Finish Sixth in C-USA Track Championships; Women Place 12th
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Golden Eagle men’s team claimed Conference USA titles in the high jump and javelin on Saturday's final day of competition to earn a sixth-place finish at the 2003 C-USA Track and Field Championships. The Lady Eagles finished 12th, got points from the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays.

The Golden Eagle performances were highlighted by junior Cedric Norman’s outstanding performance in the high jump, capturing the C-USA title with a meet, track and school record height of 7’5.25”. He remained undefeated this season in that event. The Golden Eagles took the top three places in the javelin, led by Jeb Meschke’s school-record performance of 214’11”, for first-place, followed Conrad Chanove with a throw of 197’6” and Marvin Lucas third with a throw of 192’9”. Shane Brandford placed eighth in the competition with a throw of 171’10”.
 

 

Noah Bryant scored two points with his seventh-place finish in the discus with a throw of 148'7". Norman also added a point to the Eagles’ total with an eighth place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 46’2.75”. Michael Hardrick finished in a tie for fifth in the high jump with a jump of 6’5.50”.

The 4x400-meter relay team posted a time of 3:14.06, finishing seventh. Matthew Cheruiyot finished fourth in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:47.06.

On the women's side, Southern Miss scored 26 points, following a third-place finish in the 4x100 relay team with a regional qualifying time of 46.06 and a fifth-place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:46.38. Prudence Reid finished seventh in the 100 meter dash with a season-best time of 11.83, scoring two points for the Lady Eagles.

TCU won the men's event while South Florida claimed its first-ever C-USA women's title.
