Eagles Produce Solid Performance At Houston Meet

Marvin Lucas captures the long jump competition at the Houston Indoor Invitational

HOUSTON, Texas -- Southern Mississippi's men's and women's indoor track teams recorded another solid performance Saturday in the Houston Indoor Invitational in the Bill Yoeman Field House at the University of Houston. The women finished 15th in the 21-school meet and the Golden Eagle men were a solid eighth, in a 21-team field.

Following the Houston meet, Southern Miss continues the indoor season Feb. 14, in the Middle Tennessee State Indoor Invitational in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

Cedric Norman, who picked up his second high jump win of the season in the recent Bayou Bengal Meet in Baton Rouge, La., finished in a tie for first in the Houston meet with a jump of 7' 1.50", but took second place, because he had more misses.

Marvin Lucas took a solid first place in the long jump with a leap of 24' 06.25", Jeff Danso took third in the triple jump at 47' 06.25', Corey Yates earned points in the 60-yard dash with a 6.95 time that earned him fourth, and Eric Lyon picked up points in the weight throw, with a throw of 46' 08.75" that earned him seventh place.

On the women's side, Lexi Washington scored in the triple jump (36' 10.25"), Krista Miller finished second in the high jump at 5' 06.00" and Kate Juedes scored in the same event with a 5' 0" mark.

"This was a really large meet, and a good experience for our athletes," Head Coach Wayne Williams said. "I was pleased with our performance. We've made some progress since the season started, and competing against a quality field such as the one in Houston can only help us."
