Canudas Named Conference USA Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week

David Canudas earns Golden Eagles' first athlete of the week honor

– Senior David Canudas was named the Conference USA Tennis Athlete of the Week for his performances Mar. 8.

Canudas finished the week with a 2-0 record at the No. 1 spot for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. He defeated Louis Desmorteaux of St. John's, 4-6, 6-3, 6-0. He defeated Manuel Miletic of Samford in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Canudas teamed with Juan Garzon and posted a 2-0 record in No. 3 doubles as well. They defeated the tandem of Todd Goldberg and Nick Stocker of St. John's, 8-4, while also posting an 8-4 win over Johnny Griffee and James Bryce of Samford. Canudas owns a 6-2 record during the spring and has a five-match winning streak at No. 1 singles. With Canudas' help, the Golden Eagles posted a 4-1 victory over St. John's and a 5-2 defeat of Samford.
