HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- - The men's tennis team evened its record at 9-9, following a 6-1 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday afternoon at the Racquet Club.

"This was a good win today," Head Coach Teddy Viator said. "We played better in doubles and that gave us momentum going into the singles. This may be the best match we've played this year. Now, we have to get ready to play a good Memphis team next week."

The Golden Eagles opened the match, winning the doubles' point, but not without a fight. Strate Krstevski and Andrew Poole blanked Jakub Kwasniewicz and Nexus Stewart (SLU) at No. 3 doubles, 8-0. The next two matches had to be decided on tie-breakers. Domagoj Anic and Diego Machuca knocked off Julien Lousao and Vladimir Paunic (SLU), 9-8, 7-4 in the tie-breaker, earning the doubles' point.

Ondrej Krivka and Matthieu Leboucher (SLU) outlasted Oscar Machuca and Markus Wessinghage at No. 1 doubles, 9-8, and 7-4 in the tie-breaker.

Southern Miss (9-9) took a 2-0 lead, behind a 6-0, 6-0, straight-set win at No. 6 singles by Wessinghage over Stewart. Krstevski then added the Eagles' third point at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-2, win over Kwasniewicz (SLU).

Southeastern (8-8) got its first point with a win at No. 3 singles, when Vladimir Paunic (SLU) defeated Diego Machuca, 6-2, 6-3.

Oscar Machuca clinched the match for Southern Miss at No. 4 singles, with a 6-4, 6-3, win over Julien Lousao.

Rounding out the remaining results was Anic battling Leboucher at No. 1 singles for a 7-5, 4-6, 11-9 win. Poole concluded the match with a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles over Krivka.

"I thought Andrew played well today," said Viator. "Oscar continues to lead this team. He has a 13-4 record this spring."

Southern Miss returns to action on April 6 at Memphis.
