Eagle Golfers Lead Sam Hall Classic, After 36 Holes

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- The Southern Miss men's golf team shot rounds of 285-288--573, and leads the Sam H. Hall Intercollegiate by six shots over second place Stephen F. Austin (297-282--579) after Monday's 36-holes of action. The 54-hole event ends Tuesday with an 18-hole round that starts with teams teeing off both No. 1 and No. 10, starting at 7:30 a.m.

West Florida (293-288--581) is in third place, Louisiana-Monroe (298-288--586) is fourth and Louisiana-Lafayette (298-289--587) round out the top five teams.

Head Coach Steve Johnson's team started the day with a three-under-par 285 round and finished the day with five players in the top 20. West Florida's Fredrik Lundberg finished his day at seven under par, with rounds of 68-69--137. Stephen F. Austin's Dustin Byrd is three shots back at 73-67--140, UNC-Greensboro's Andy Bare is third at 72-69--141, and Judd Easterling (70-71--141) of Wichita State and Southern Miss' Michael Soroka (69-72--141) round out the top five.


 

 

In the top 20 finisher group, players recorded 24 rounds or par or better and 19 under-par rounds. Byrd's five-under-par 67 was the best round of the day.

Three Golden Eagle golfers are tied in seventh place: Danny Dennis at 73-70--143, Shane Rushing at 70-73--143 and Matt Wofford at 72-71--143. Ben Snow's 73-73--146 earned him a tie for 16th place. Wofford had rounds of 72-71--143 but his score did not count since he was playing as an individual. Other USM individual players included Will Taylor (73-77--150), and Micky D'Angelo (77-81--158).
