Cook and King Named Collegiate Baseball All-Americans
Southern Miss outfielders Jeff Cook and Clint King have each been named to the Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball All-American team, it was announced today. Both players were named as third team selections, and they represent USM’s first postseason All-American selections since 1994.

King and Cook were among five players from Conference USA that earned All-American honors. Houston sophomore reliever Ryan Wagner was named to the first team, Tulane junior first baseman Michael Aubrey was listed on the second team and TCU righthander Clayton Jerome joined Cook and King as third team selections.

King and Cook are the top two home run producers in Conference USA, with King smashing 22 homers and Cook bashing 21 round-trippers entering NCAA regional play. King has driven in 71 runs this season to rank sixth on USM’s single-season list, while Cook is one spot behind him with 70. King’s .397 batting average is second in C-USA, while Cook ranks fourth with a .378 average.

King leads the team in hits (93), on-base percentage (.457) and slugging percentage (.778). He has 33 multiple-hit games (23 with two hits and 10 with three hits) and 18 multiple-RBI games. King currently ranks No. 8 in home runs, No. 30 in RBI and No. 43 in batting average. He took home Conference USA Tournament MVP honors after going 6-for-15 with two doubles, two home runs and five RBI to lead the Golden Eagles to the tournament title.

Cook leads the team in stolen bases (13) and runs scored (63), while posting an on-base percentage of .448 and a slugging percentage of .772. During the course of this season, he has become Southern Miss’ all-time leader in hits (288), runs scored (194), home runs (48) and total bases (494), and enters the NCAA Tournament just nine RBI shy of becoming the school’s all-time leader in that category as well.
