2005 Conference USA Tournament Day Two Sponsored By Powerade Game 6 – USF 11, Louisville 1
HATTIESBURG, Miss.— Sixth-seeded USF used a seven-run inning in the top of the sixth inning, to take a 11-1, run-rule victory in seven innings over seventh-seeded Louisville, in day two, game six action at the 2005 Conference USA Baseball Tournament, sponsored by POWERade at Pete Taylor Park today.
With the win, USF improves to 33-30, while Louisville falls to 32-24. Louisville becomes the second team to be eliminated in this year’s tournament, joining UAB, eliminated by Houston 7-5, this morning. Through six games at the league tournament, all of the higher seeds have defeated the lower seeded teams.
USF took a 1-0 lead in the first, as Tim Orlosky started the inning with a solo home run, his seventh of the season.
The Bulls got three more runs in the second, as Bryan Baisley started the inning with a solo home run to left center, his ninth of the season. After Matt McHargue walked, Brandin Daniel connected on a two-run home run to left center, his fifth of the season, to give USF a 4-0 lead.
In the sixth, USF put together the tournament’s biggest inning so far, scoring seven to take a 10-0 advantage, all coming with two outs. B. Baisley doubled to left to start the inning, but Cardinal pitcher Trystan Magnuson got McHargue to fly out to center before striking out Daniel. Butler then singled to center, scoring B. Baisley. Following a single by Ty Taborelli, Louisville changed pitchers to Brian Halford, who proceeded to walk Orlosky, which loaded the bases. Joey Angelberger then reached on a error by Cardinal third baseman Ryan McKinnon, which scored Taborelli and Butler. Bryan Hierlmeier then walked, again loading the bases, before Jeff Baisley tripled down the right field line, clearing the bases. B. Baisley then scored J. Baisley with a double down the left field line, before McHargue struck out to end the inning.
Louisville got their first run of the game in the bottom of the inning, on a solo home run by J.T. LaFountain, his eighth longball of the season, to make the score 11-1.
J. Baisley finished with three RBI to lead USF, while B. Baisley had three hits. Butler and Taborelli each had two hits for USF, while Orlosky and B. Baisley scored two runs. Logan Johnson had two hits to lead Louisville.
USF advances to play the loser of the TCU/Southern Miss game at 6:30 p.m., on Friday.
